Case 1: In Malaysia reported in the year of 2006;

"The man had been operating the clinic for more than 10 years, but no one realised he was not qualified to practise modern medicine. Director-general of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican believes there are many such illegal centres and clinics operating nationwide. And this, he said, was why the ministry wanted to enforce the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 . “By doing so, we will rid the country of healthcare premises or services run by unregistered medical practitioners, bogus doctors or quacks providing modern healthcare services,” Dr Ismail said yesterday.

Case 2: In China reported; "Bogus" Doctor Gets 15-Year imprisonment
Hu Wanlin, a "bogus" physician who is responsible for the deaths of at least three people was sentenced to 15 years in prison today. He no longer has the right to vote for five years and has been fined 150,000 yuan. The verdict was passed by Shangqiu City Intermediate People's Court in Central China's Henan Province, which called Hu's crime as "practicing medicine illegally".

Hu, a native of Mianyang City of Southwest China's Sichuan Province, was arrested in 1999 by the Shangqiu Public Security Bureau in Henan Province on suspicion of practising medicine illegally after several patients under his treatment died.

Without registered qualifications, Hu opened medical services in several hopitals in Xinjiang Ugyr Autonomous Region, Shanxi and Henan Provinces.

Three people who died as a result of Hu's treatment are Wang Baoran, an engineer from Zhengzhou, capital city of Henan Province who died on December 16 of 1997, Liu Famin, mayor of Luohe City of Henan Province who died on September 27 of 1998 and He Suyun, a teacher from Shangqiu who died October 1 1998.

Case 3: In Jakarta recently reported;

Another fraud case involving a hospital and a bogus doctor was reported this week, prompting police to warn the public to beware of such scams.

E. Silaen received a phone call Tuesday afternoon from a man saying he was a doctor from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM). He told Silaen her daughter was dying in the hospital and needed an operation. The man asked Silaen to transferred some money.

In a panic, Salien immediately asked her husband to transfer Rp 14.7 million (US$1,580) to a bank account, as requested by the man.

She followed the order as he said her daughter, Sri Boena Brahmana, had been in a serious accident and needed surgery to implant a heart pacemaker.

Case 4: Dr Dragan Davic a.k.a Radovan Karadzic: A War Criminal;
The big news today was that Radovan Karadzic, the Bosnian Serb warlord wanted for organising massacres of Croatian and Muslim civilians, has been arrested, and is likely to be shipped to The Hague post-haste. Rather than hiding in a hole or an impregnable fortress manned by fierce hordesmen, Karadzic spent the past 14 years being a celebrated New Age therapist in Belgrade. He grew an ecclesiastical-looking white beard, called himself Dragan Dabic and went around teaching meditation, yoga and tai chi and offering "bio-energy healing", amassing a considerable following.

Those who knew Dr Dabic on the New Age circuit have told The Times that he was regarded as an expert in silence and meditation. One of his lectures was called 'The relationship between calmness and meditation,' and another one was titled 'How to nurture your own energies.'

Mr Ljajic said that Dr Karadzic's disguise had rendered him so unrecognisable that even the landlord from whom he rented a flat had no idea who he really was.

There are so many reasons of a person to be a bogus doctor. Do you believe your doctor?
