Women Mid Life Crisis
Written by administrator
Thursday, 07 August 2008

We often came accross the term mid life crisis - which is applicable for men. This time we found an article wrote by a doctor in the States and it is about women mid life crisis. Read on.

MID-LIFE CRISIS: IS IT AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR THE SEXES?

by  Dr. Ginger E. Blume

The Chinese word for "crisis" is formed by two symbols, one on top of the other: danger and opportunity. I believe this unique combination of opposites is a helpful way to understand how the male and female mid-life crisis might differ. Historically, a mid-life crisis has been primarily associated with men in their mid to late 40ies going through personal turmoil associated with fear and anxiety about growing older.

According to Elaine Wethington, Cornell sociologist, a midlife crisis is not a male only experience. In fact, her research shows that both men and women are equally likely to believe they’ve experienced a midlife crisis. However, Dr. Wethington also states that a midlife crisis is not inevitable as we age, and is therefore, not a universal experience.

Why do some people have a midlife crisis and others do not? The MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Successful Midlife Development has said that midlife is “the least charted territory in human development.” Maybe this is because midlife is a less than glamorous territory in adult development. Experientially, in my private practice, I’ve observed two categories of people who tended to avoid a midlife crisis. One group of people, were those rare individuals who, for the first half of their lives, felt they had truly fulfilled many of their dreams. They felt as if they were living their life purpose and felt complete. The second group of people were those who were not very psychologically introspective and who tended to live in the present moment. Perhaps, lacking a yearning for more (i.e. of time, life experiences, etc.), this latter group headed more easily into their senior years.

Retrogade Ejaculation
Written by administrator
Saturday, 02 August 2008
In males, retrograde ejaculation occurs when the fluid to be ejaculated, which would normally exit via the urethra, is redirected towards the urinary bladder. Normally the sphincter of the bladder contracts and the sperm goes to the urethra towards the area of least pressure. In retrograde ejaculation this sphincter does not function properly.

Causes

Causes may be in the autonomic nervous system or the operation of the prostate. Retrograde ejaculation is a common complication of trans-urethral resection of the prostate, a procedure in which diseased, or non-diseased (enlarged prostate) tissue is removed, slice by slice, through a resectoscope passed along the urethra.

Retrograde ejaculation is a common side effect of medications such as Tamsulosin that are used to relax the muscles of the urinary tract for various purposes. These medications may cause the bladder sphincter to relax as well and fail to contract fully.
But the medications that mostly cause it are antidepressant and antipsychotic medication, and the patients experiencing that tend to quit them.Retrograde ejaculation can also be a complication of diabetes especially in cases of diabetics with long term poor blood sugar control. This is due to neuropathy of the bladder sphincter.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is usually by way of a urinalysis performed on a urine specimen that is obtained shortly after ejaculation which will have an abnormal level of sperm within it.
Anejaculation often, especially in case of orgasmic anejaculation, can be confused with retrograde ejaculation, and they share some fundamental aspects of the etiology. Urinalysis is used also to distinguish between them.

Learn - the process never end!

Malaysian Management Review:
A STUDY OF THE READING HABITS AND INTERESTS OF URBAN WORKING PROFESSIONALS, EXECUTIVES AND MANAGERS
Irene Ong Pooi Fong - Department of Management, The University of Sheffield Programme, Taylor's Business School

ABSTRACT

This study was undertaken to examine the reading habits and interests of urban working professionals, executives and managers in the Klang Valley. With an overall insight into the reading behaviour of this group, it is greatly hoped that there will be a greater awareness among corporate individuals and organizations as regards the importance of reading in knowledge acquisition and knowledge management. Reading is a vital behavioural factor in a knowledge-based society and an emerging knowledge economy.

A total of 299 responses were collected in this study. Generally, the reading attitude is very encouraging and a wide ariety of materials was read, ranging from local newspapers, magazines, journals and books to foreign publications. There are also significant relationships between the gender, race and
level of management of respondents and their reading pattern.

The results of this study indicated that seniority plays quite a major role in influencing the reading pattern. It was also revealed that there is a strong possibility of the presence of five major categories of readers based on the attitudes and intensity of their reading activities.

Importance of reading

Reading has come to hold the most significant place in education as a means of communication in a highly literate society. Mann, in his study (1971), stressed that the book is still very much part of people's lives in our modern society and in spite of the invention of the latest audio-visual materials, the book in its ordinary conventional form is still the most important means of communication ever invented. Mann further stressed that reading is important for acquiring knowledge and information. The enrichment in knowledge would, in turn, enable one to present oneself more confidently.
